Inca ceramic plate with bird’s head assorted designs

Description

They are dishes whose long handles offer at first glance the impression of being terracotta pans. The end opposite the handle-handle protrudes two teeth destined to support the weight of the piece while they held it over the fire. It is assumed that they were used to heat food and eat it. As in the case of the Aríbalos, the tones are dark and the drawings try to keep a sense of balance and symmetry. The animal motifs can be birds or fish, always placed in the opposite direction when advancing the clock hands. When the birds advance in a horizontal plane they also do it from right to left, the same happening with the fish in the case that they simulate commotion or confusion, adding to this rule the fruits of the chili pepper that will always point to the left.
