Inca ceramic vessel with two cats and geometric designs.
Inca pottery was mostly utilitarian, but also ceremonial since it was used in religious rites where this pottery was specially decorated for that function. Inca pottery was characterized by adorning the different vessels with animal heads. Usually they decorated with representations of animal heads or complete animals on top of the vessels. Today many Inca ceramics with bird heads can be seen in the upper part of their vessels, but they also had other popular motifs such as the use of other animals such as llamas, vicuñas, jaguars, alpacas, butterflies, bees, etc.
The favorite colors for the ceramics were red, black, white, orange and yellow. Like other Andean peoples, they used geometric shapes frequently in their creations.
