Description

Replica of a ceramic vessel (huaco) of an urpo or aríbalo with geometric designs. This container was one of the typical forms of Inca imperial pottery, named for its similarity to the shape of Greek pottery that bears that name. There are aribals of imperial dimensions. They were used to produce, store and transport chicha, a ritual drink made from the fermentation of corn, and other edible products that were shared in the redistribution festivals offered by the Inca. Its base has a pointed shape so that it can be inserted into the earth. In the Colonial Era, these ceremonial vessels continued to be made, and they were decorated with colorful carved and painted scenes.
